From Vision to Action: AIT showcases its latest innovationsUnder the motto “From Vision to Action”, the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology presented its lat-est innovations in high-performance machine vision at VISION 2026. Held in Stuttgart from 6 to 8 October 2026, the world’s leading trade fair for machine vision attracted more than 9,000 interna-tional trade visitors. Around 1,000 visitors came to the AIT booth to explore innovative technologies for industrial quality inspection and autonomous machinery.
With its live demonstrations and the Scientific Vision Days, AIT highlighted both - its technological expertise and its role as a research and development partner connecting industry and science.
High-performance quality inspection for industrial manufacturingAt VISION 2026, AIT addressed key challenges facing the manufacturing industry. The focus was on technologies that transform image and sensor data into reliable information for intelligent deci-sion-making and autonomous action.
Live demonstrations showcased high-performance technologies for 2D and 3D quality inspection and metrology, as well as 3D environment perception, localization and mapping for autonomous machinery. These included several award-winning technologies:
- Inline Computational Imaging (ICI): The enhanced technology combines three imaging mo-dalities for continuous 2D and 3D inspection, enabling reliable imaging of both structured and low-texture surfaces.
- Robotic Inspection: The system automatically generates inspection plans based on CAD data and adapts them to different component positions – without replanning, manual teach-ing or the need for precise positioning fixtures.
- PHOTODEX: The portable system enables motion-robust surface inspection and was rec-ognized as one of the TOP 5 innovations at VISION 2026.
- xposure:1MPlus: The technology enables ultra-fast inline inspection and distinguishes col-our contamination from fine surface defects.
- SLAM technology: The technology enables high-precision 3D environment perception, local-ization and mapping in real time – essential capabilities for autonomous machinery and mo-bile robots.
AIT combines advanced machine vision and 3D reconstruction with AI and machine learning to address key challenges in industrial manufacturing. Applications range from detecting microscopic defects at high production speeds and inspecting complex surfaces to automating quality control and enabling autonomous machinery to reliably perceive its environment.
AIT also addressed the specific challenges of automotive and battery manufacturing during the Guided Tour Automotive & Battery, showcasing its technologies for machine vision-based quality assurance and autonomous inspection planning.
AIT Scientific Vision Days:Connecting research and industryThe Scientific Vision Days have become an established lecture forum and international platform for knowledge and technology transfer between research and industry.
Over three days, 38 international experts from academia and applied research presented the latest research findings and technological developments in machine vision. Key topics ranged from AI-powered machine vision and advanced sensing technologies to digital twins and the use of synthet-ic data to accelerate the development and optimization of machine vision solutions.
AIT researchers also shared insights into their latest developments, including the technologies and solutions demonstrated live at the AIT booth.
“Our goal is to bring scientific innovations into industrial practice. With the AIT Scientific Vision Days, we actively contribute to knowledge and technology transfer between research and indus-try,” says Andreas Vrabl, Head of Center for Vision, Automation & Control at AIT.
With its technological innovations and the Scientific Vision Days, AIT once again demonstrated its role as a research and development partner for industry and a facilitator of international scientific exchange.
