Honours for research into the European aluminium circular economy and climate-neutral urban development

The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is one of the major winners of this year's ÖGUT Environmental Award: two projects from different areas of applied research received awards, demonstrating the broad spectrum of research with which the AIT supports key transformation processes in industry and society.

EUROGRADUATE 2026 – harmonised data in Europe's higher education area
EUROGRADUATE 2026 marks the next major step towards Europe-wide coordinated graduate tracking. Based on EUROGRADUATE 2022, harmonised country data will be created as a solid basis for comparable analyses of employability, job satisfaction, skills matching, learning and working mobility, and career paths. Integration into the data infrastructure of the European Higher Education Sector Observatory (EHESO) will provide decision-makers bundled information for evidence-based policy-making.

From 4 to 6 November 2025, AIT will present its latest tools for quantifiable sustainability assessments and variant comparisons, as well as innovative digital tools from the City Intelligence Lab at Smart City Expo Barcelona. In urban and neighbourhood development, these digital tools make complex planning and urban development measurable, comparable and understandable. With clear assessments and interactive dashboards, decisions can be made based on facts for greater sustainability, energy efficiency, resource conservation and climate resilience.

The biotechnologist was honored at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology for her internationally recognized research on microbiomes and climate-resilient agriculture
Angela Sessitsch, Head of the Center for Health & Bioresources at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, ranks among the Top 3 “Austrians of the Year” in the Research category. The renowned biotechnologist was honored as part of the Austria 25 Awards of the daily newspaper “Die Presse” for her outstanding contributions to microbiome research and its significance for sustainable, climate-resilient agriculture.

Her research shows how microbially supported solutions—from seed treatment and crop protection to improved nutrient cycles—strengthen yield security, soil health, and resource efficiency in agriculture. In doing so, Sessitsch provides important answers to the challenges of climate change.
