EUROGRADUATE 2026 – harmonised data in Europe's higher education area
EUROGRADUATE 2026 marks the next major step towards Europe-wide coordinated graduate tracking. Based on EUROGRADUATE 2022, harmonised country data will be created as a solid basis for comparable analyses of employability, job satisfaction, skills matching, learning and working mobility, and career paths. Integration into the data infrastructure of the European Higher Education Sector Observatory (EHESO) will provide decision-makers bundled information for evidence-based policy-making.

City Intelligence Lab at Smart City Expo Barcelona
© AIT

From 4 to 6 November 2025, AIT will present its latest tools for quantifiable sustainability assessments and variant comparisons, as well as innovative digital tools from the City Intelligence Lab at Smart City Expo Barcelona. In urban and neighbourhood development, these digital tools make complex planning and urban development measurable, comparable and understandable. With clear assessments and interactive dashboards, decisions can be made based on facts for greater sustainability, energy efficiency, resource conservation and climate resilience.

The biotechnologist was honored at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology for her internationally recognized research on microbiomes and climate-resilient agriculture
Angela Sessitsch, Head of the Center for Health & Bioresources at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, ranks among the Top 3 “Austrians of the Year” in the Research category. The renowned biotechnologist was honored as part of the Austria 25 Awards of the daily newspaper “Die Presse” for her outstanding contributions to microbiome research and its significance for sustainable, climate-resilient agriculture.

Her research shows how microbially supported solutions—from seed treatment and crop protection to improved nutrient cycles—strengthen yield security, soil health, and resource efficiency in agriculture. In doing so, Sessitsch provides important answers to the challenges of climate change.

In the NINA project, AIT is working with partners to research new methods for diagnosing, assessing and conducting life cycle assessments of prestressed concrete bridges

Due to its topography, Austria has a dense network of bridge structures. Many of these structures have now been in operation for several decades and will reach the end of their normal service life in the next twenty years. At the same time, traffic volumes are increasing, and with them the number of load cycles to be endured. Prestressed concrete bridges are particularly affected: the tendons inside the concrete are susceptible to corrosion, cannot be inspected visually and therefore pose a safety risk. The challenge is twofold: on the one hand, existing structures must remain reliably usable for much longer, and on the other hand, sustainability issues are becoming increasingly important in bridge construction. The use of recycled concrete and clinker-reduced cements is considered promising, but has not yet been comprehensively investigated. This makes new diagnostic tools, prediction models and sustainability assessments indispensable.

The European research project MITHOS was launched in September with a kick-off event in San Sebastián, Spain. The high-profile consortium brings together 14 partner organisations from seven European countries and is working to develop an innovative, AI-supported decision support system for monitoring, redesigning and maintaining multimodal transport infrastructures. The aim is to manage roads, railways, cycle paths and ports more efficiently, safely and sustainably.

New test benches enable realistic tests up to 100 kW heating capacity and strengthen Austria's role as a location for innovation in climate-neutral heating technologies.

On 13 October 2025, the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology officially opened Austria's most advanced heat pump laboratory, providing important impetus for the decarbonisation of the heating sector. High-tech test benches allow heat pump systems with a heating capacity of up to 100 kW to be tested under realistic conditions. The new laboratory offers customers from industry and partners from research ideal conditions for the development and optimisation of efficient systems. The AIT thus underlines its central role in the development of new technologies and strengthens the innovation ecosystem of research and industry in Austria.

AIT coordinates EU Project „Catalyse“

CATALYSE is a Horizon Europe project funded by the European Commission and coordinated by AIT Austrian Institute of Technology that supports European cities in their endeavour to become climate neutral. Moving beyond fragmented experimentations, the project anchors mission-oriented policies in local contexts and leverages the role of Knowledge Institutions (KIs) as hubs and trusted actors within innovation ecosystems.
